#9 Things Are Not Looking Good For Eric
On most Mondays, I plan to publish a past communication or two about Eric Russ and his Health Journey that originally appeared in Caring Bridge. For anyone with a “health opportunity” as my nurse friend calls it, I hope these posts are helpful.
Just Talked to Eric’s Doctor
I just spoke with Dr. Anthony — he’s concerned about how Eric seemed today and wanted to have a talk with me about what he sees. The short story is that his hunch is that the tumor is growing really fast and is now obstructing Eric’s bowel. Eric is not eating much at all, and has constant nausea. They will do a cat scan tomorrow and determine whether to continue any kind of treatment. Dr. Anthony says that he doesn’t think Eric could survive the kind of surgery that would be required at this point, and even if Eric survived the surgery, Dr. Anthony thinks there could be many follow up complications.
‘Tis A Gift To Be Simple
Good Morning Wonderful Friends and Family,
I have been with Eric at the hospital most of the night, holding his hand and soothing him. He is talking a little, and loves being loved. All of his bodily systems are shutting down, and from now on we will be using comfort measures to help him along his way.
Thank you for loving Eric. He is a good man, my favorite friend and has made a difference to so many.
This has been a long day, since I came to the hospital in the middle of the night. Eric’s brother Gary came to visit and they had a wonderful time catching up.
After a long day of being presented with advice from doctors, he is preparing his heart and mind to say goodbye to many people.
That’s all I can really say tonight.
