SUMMER SHORTS SERIES: “The Moment of Lift. How Empowering Women Changes The World.”

If you read one book this summer, make it the new book by Melinda Gates called The Moment of Lift. For the last twenty years, Melinda Gates has been on a mission to find solutions for people with the most urgent needs, wherever they live. Throughout this journey, one thing has become increasingly clear to her: If you want to lift a society up, you need to stop keeping women down.

“In her book, Melinda tells the stories of the inspiring people she’s met through her work all over the world, digs into the data, and powerfully illustrates issues that need our attention―from child marriage to gender inequity in the workplace.” ― President Barack Obama

If a video introduction to Melinda’s work is your preference, here’s a CBS Sunday Morning Interview (9-1/2 minutes) by Jane Pauley with both Melinda and Bill Gates about their philanthropy work.

  • Hi Terri, just an FYI,
I was so interested in your Five Wise Women piece that I responded to it. However you had already written one or two new pieces by the time I had a chance to write so I don’t know if you ever had a chance to read it. Hope you will if you haven’t already. I really enjoy your writings.

    • Thank you, Marilyn. I read your other post when you sent it, but I really wanted to take in what you said, and “let it sit” as I often do, so I didn’t write back immediately! But now I have. Thank you for your thoughtful answer and for the stories about you and your friends! Thanks for reading, as always!
